Indian skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that the team is likely to witness failures sometimes with their current approach toward the game. Rohit also mentioned that they are yet to contemplate a few spots for the T20 World Cup, which is less than three months away.

India hasn’t lost a T20I series since Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy after their exit from the group stage in last year’s T20 World Cup in UAE.

There will be failures at times with the brand of cricket we are currently playing: Rohit Sharma

Rohit backed the individual and team plans, citing failures will be part of the high-risk gameplan in a new set of brandish cricket en route to the mega event Down Under.

“That is why I repeat, the people outside the scene should keep calm and maintain silence. The brand of cricket which we are currently playing, there will be failures at times, the results may not go in favour, but that is completely fine, no problem with it, because we are trying to learn something with it,” Rohit told Vimal Kumar in a video uploaded on the latter’s YouTube channel.

“We are trying to do something different, so there may be instances where we make mistakes, but it does not mean that the players or the team are bad,” he added.

Despite its dominance in the bilateral series both home and away, India have been eluded from an ICC Trophy. India have reached a final (Champions Trophy 2017) and three semi-finals – 2015 and 2019 World Cup; 2016 T20 World Cup.

India lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in the last edition of World T20, those defeats led to their exit from qualifying the knockout stage.

We have not won any World Cups, but that does not mean we have been performing poorly in the last few years. I do not agree that we were playing conservative cricket. You lose a couple of matches in the World Cup and suddenly there is talk of the team trying something else,” Rohit said.

“If you look at the overall games that we have played, leading into the WC, we have won around 80 percent of our games,” he added.

We still have to fill some spots before the T20 World Cup: Rohit Sharma

Indian team has tried 29 players across 19 T20Is under Rahul Dravid as head coach post 2021 T20 WC. Rohit said the team management still needs time to think over a few roles.

You need to change with time, we are trying to change as well, so the people outside also need to change their thinking. We still have to fill some spots in the team before the T20 World Cup, we also know what needs to be done to fill those spots. So, we are trying, with all these matches that are being played to address those things,” the Indian skipper said.

India swept West Indies in a 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series and they are set to start the T20I series with Rohit, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya returning from a short break. The first T20I will begin on Friday (July 29) at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
