ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Virat Kohli Or Suryakumar Yadav? - Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag And Ashish Nehra Differ On "Best Batter Of T20 World Cup"

England won the 2022 T20 World Cup after defeating Pakistan in the championship match by a margin of five wickets. The Indian cricket team wasn’t able to make much of an impression in the competition, but a few players did stand out for their individual efforts.

These two players were Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, both of whom were batters. Who among them, though, could be dubbed “batter of the tournament”? 

In a video posted on Cricbuzz, former Indian cricket stars Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag, and Ashish Nehra expressed their thoughts on the designation of the T20 World Cup’s “batter of the tournament.” Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli were the best candidates for all three of them. 

Virender Sehwag And Zaheer Khan Pick Virat Kohli As Best Batter Of T20 World Cup

Zaheer Khan, a former left-arm pacer, believes that although Suryakumar, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales had a great impact in this tournament, Virat Kohli was the one that stood out with his consistency.

“Suryakumar Yadav had a great World Cup, Jos Buttler came into the form in the latter half while Alex Hales also had an impact. But the batter that really stood out was Virat Kohli who was really consistent through and through.

With that average and so many not-outs. The way he started the tournament, with that knock against Pakistan, it was the beginning of what was coming in the tournament”, Zaheer said.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag picked Kohli as he has the highest number of runs in the tournament. However, he thought Glenn Phillips’ knock against Sri Lanka in the Super 12 stage was the best.

“According to me, Virat Kohli would be the batter of the tournament as he has made the most number of runs. As far as the best knock is concerned, I would go for Glenn Phillips for his hundred against Sri Lanka”, Sehwag said.

Ashish Nehra Picks Suryakumar Yadav Over Virat Kohli

Ashish Nehra feels that Suryakumar Yadav was the best batter of the tournament because, at No.4, such strike rate and consistency are not easy. Meanwhile, he agreed with Sehwag and said Glenn Phillips’ knock against Sri Lanka was the best of the tournament.

“Best better, I would say is Suryakumar Yadav. Not just because he is an Indian but the way he has played over the last 1-2 years. At No. 4, such a strike-rate and such consistency isn’t easy. As for the best knock, I would say Phillips’ century against Sri Lanka stood out.”
