Pakistan Cricket Team had a heartbreaking loss against England in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022. The Men in Green had a topsy-turvy tournament and made a commendable comeback after losing the first two matches in the Group Stage. Skipper Babar Azam was quite magnificent in his captaincy as he showed a lot of character.

Pakistan would be dejected as they had a golden chance to win their 2nd title. The team wasn’t able to find a reliant finisher who can play handy cameos for the team. The Men in Green were quite unpredictable as not many gave them a chance after losing against Zimbabwe.

Shahid Afridi on Babar Azam

Shahid Afridi was having an interaction with SAMAA TV and was asked about Babar Azam.  “Babar was not happy with the management at Karachi Kings as it is. I feel he should take a tough call and quit captaincy in T20 cricket. He should focus on his batting and lead the team in Tests and one-dayers,” said Shahid Afridi.

“I respect Babar a lot and that’s why I don’t want him to take the pressure of captaincy in T20 cricket. I want him to focus on his captaincy in longer formats. You do have players like Shadab, Rizwan and even Shan Masood who can lead the team in the T20 format,” he added.

Babar Azam’s Form A Concern

The right-handed batter had a torrid T20 World Cup where he scored 124 runs in 7 matches where he scored one half-century against New Zealand in the Semi-Final. Due to his form, there was a lot of pressure on the rest of the batters. Babar looked in two minds whether to attack or defend due to which he was consuming a lot of dot balls.

Many experts have said that Babar should give up the captaincy, but we should not forget that changing captaincy affects the team’s dynamics. With the ODI World Cup 2023 aligned next, the selection panel will have to be careful with their decisions.
