ICC T20 World Cup: 3 Indian Players Who Should Be Dropped From India’s T20 World Cup Squad If India Has To Win The World Cup

1. Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel is the first player on this list. The right-arm pacer is part of the India squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Patel was injured for a few months and made a comeback to the team in the recent IND vs AUS T20I series. He played all three T20I games against Australia.

However, Patel failed to come up with a good performance. He picked just 1 wicket across three games at an average of 99.0. He was also highly expensive at his economy rate of 12.38 and conceded a lot of runs in the death overs. Hence, Patel should be replaced with some other pacers like Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar in the squad.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin is another player who should be dropped from India’s ICC T20 World Cup squad. Although Ashwin has a lot of experience, he is not a regular player in the shortest format. In 2022, the right-arm spinner has only played 6 games and picked 5 wickets at an average of 29.40 and an economy of 6.12.

In a recent T20I game against South Africa, Ashwin bowled 4 overs in the match but failed to get any wickets. All the other bowlers managed to get at least 1 wicket in the match. Axar Patel showed good form in the recent T20I series against Australia and he will be more likely to be part of the playing XI in ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Moreover, Ashwin is also not a powerful all-rounder as he lacks hard-hitting batting skills. Hence, Ashwin should be replaced by some other full-time spinner or all-rounder for T20 World Cup 2022.

3. Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda is another player on this list. The right-handed batsman made his international debut this year and has played 12 T20Is so far. With 293 runs in 9 innings at an average of 41.85, he has shown a decent performance. However, in the recent Asia Cup 2022 tournament, Hooda failed to score runs at crucial moments.

Hooda is an all-rounder but he is quite ineffective with bowling. The right-arm spinner has only bowled 6 overs across 4 games in which he picked 1 wicket. Hence, Hooda is not a reliable secondary spinner for the team. Hooda can be replaced by some other player to strengthen India’s squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
