New BCCI President Roger Binny was elected unopposed for the post. 1983 World Cup Winner was a part of the selection panel in 2012 and under his tenure, India won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. The flamboyant all-rounder would be aware that there would be huge expectations from him to take Indian Cricket to the next level.
Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly would be having mixed feelings. The former captain made India a force to reckon with but the team stumbled in the ICC tournaments which was the pinnacle. Ganguly’s highlight of the tenure would be the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 where against all odds, the team won the Test Series.
Sourav Ganguly on Roger Binny
Sourav Ganguly was attending the AGM meeting for the final time under his tenure and he made an interesting statement on Roger Binny, “I wish Roger (Binny) all the best. The new group will take this forward. BCCI is in great hands. Indian cricket is strong so I wish them all the luck.”
Tough Task for Roger Binny
As we all know a lot of ICC tournaments are aligned next, and the BCCI president will have to manage the work-load of players. the loss of Jasprit Bumrah has somewhat disturbed the dynamics of the team as he can change the facets of the match in a single over.
Roger Binny would be well aware of the fact that there are always huge expectations from India in the ICC tournament. Binny may prioritize Test Cricket a bit more as we all know about the defeat of the 2021 WTC final. The billion people would be hoping that Team India finally ends the drought of 9 years in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 as India hasn’t won ICC Tournament since 2013.
