Team India has entered the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 as one of the top contenders to lift the trophy, hoping to end a 15-year trophy drought by winning the marquee event in Australia. The young team led by MS Dhoni won the inaugural season of the event in 2007.

India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening encounter of the World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, on Sunday, October 23. The last time the two teams faced each other in a World Cup match in Dubai, Pakistan won by 10 wickets and the Men in Blue failed to qualify for the semi-finals after losing their first two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand.

The former captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, Kapil Dev, believes that India have only a 30% chance of making it to the semi-finals of this year’s mega tournament.

India’s Chances Of Making It To The Top Four Are Just 30% – Kapil Dev

“In T20 cricket, the team winning a match can lose the next… It’s a very difficult to talk about the chances of India winning the World Cup. The issue is can they make it to the top four?

“And I am concerned about their making it to the top four, only then anything can be said. For me, it’s just 30 % chance of India making it to the top (last) four,” he added.

Kapil said that a team’s success depends on the number of all-rounders. He heaped praise on Hardik Pandya and said captain Rohit Sharma was relieved by his arrival.

Hardik Pandya Is A Good Batter, Bowler And Fielder Too – Kapil Dev

“What more do you want in the side other than having all-rounders who could win matches for a side not only in the World Cup but in all other matches or events? A cricketer like Hardik Pandya has been quite useful for India.

“All-rounders are the key players of any side, and they become the strength of a team. An all-rounder like Hardik gives Rohit Sharma the liberty to make use of the sixth bowler in a match. He is a good batter, bowler and fielder too. Ravindra Jadeja is also a perfect all-rounder for India,” Kapil Dev said.
