Former India captain Virat Kohli has stated that Pakistan will “test you not only technically but also mentally” ahead of the much-anticipated T20 World Cup clash between the archrivals.
On Sunday, October 23, India and Pakistan will begin their T20 World Cup campaigns at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Kohli expressed his excitement for the match, saying he was grateful to be a part of it.
“(You) wake up excited for this kind of game and feel grateful that you are part of this game in a way you are playing the game well not just watching it as a spectator. So, you feel grateful for the opportunity,” Kohli said in a video shared by ICC.
“Go out there and be sure of who you are and have faith in your abilities. It’s a tough place to play. These guys will test you, not just with your technique or game but mentally as well.”
There’s a different atmosphere that’s built during World Cup matches: Virat Kohli
In terms of T20Is, India and Pakistan have only met 11 times, with India coming out on top eight times.
Both teams are in excellent shape and appear to be formidable this time around. India-Pakistan matchups have historically been close, as evidenced by their most recent Asia Cup matches.
According to Kohli, he adores these kinds of game-related moments, adding: “The same was at Mohali in the World Cup. There’s a different atmosphere that’s built during World Cup matches.
“It’s a different feeling, and you can sense that build-up, you know there’s this nervousness in the area, anticipation, and everyone’s buzzing. I love those moments. It’s these moments that are part of the whole experience. You play to live these moments.”
All eyes will be on the weather in Melbourne ahead of the game. Since Saturday night, the sky has been partly cloudy but dry. The full match between India and Pakistan is expected to be shown to fans.
