Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the fast bowler for Team India, provided an update on Dinesh Karthik, who had earlier left the field during South Africa’s run-chase in the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 game at Perth Stadium.

Karthik was observed writhing in agony at the conclusion of the 15th over while clutching his back and hunched over on his knees. The physio rushed out right away, and a few minutes later, he was spotted leaving the scene holding his back.

Although the precise form of his injury remained unknown, it appeared to be back spasms, which can occasionally occur as a result of the intense cold that one experiences in Perth. In the last minutes of the game in Perth, Rishabh Pant took over as Wicket-keeper when Karthik left the field.

Waiting For Physio’s Report On Dinesh Karthik’s Injury: Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Karthik was having some back problems, according to Bhuvneshwar, and the Men in Blue were awaiting word from the physiotherapist.

“He had some issues with his back and I didn’t meet him after the match. I’ll talk to him once we go back to the hotel and wait for the physio’s report,” according to a comment from Bhuvneshwar in the news conference following the game.

Karthik’s performance in the ongoing major tournament hasn’t been the best. At the Melbourne Cricket Ground, he was dismissed cheaply with India needing 16 runs off Babar Azam’s Pakistan in the final over.

After that, he was not given the opportunity to bat in the match against the Netherlands at the Sydney Cricket Ground, when half-centuries were produced by Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav.

Dinesh Karthik’s Poor World Cup Record Continues

Karthik had a fantastic opportunity to record a big score against South Africa. He entered the batting order after India reached 42 for the loss of four wickets in 7.3 overs. The veteran, however, lost the chance to capitalise and was removed by Wayne Parnell.

Karthik, who has struggled to score runs with the bat throughout the tournament, was unable to handle the pace, bounce, and swing offered by the Optus Stadium surface and managed only six off 15 balls in a 52-run stand.

India suffered a five-wicket defeat against South Africa, moving down to second place in the Super 12 Group’s points standings.

Karthik will have just 72 hours to be fit because India will play Bangladesh in Adelaide on November 2, which also includes a day for travel.
