As per Australian veteran Greg Chappell, Virat Kohli’s performance against Pakistan went close to being a “song of god,” the literal translation of the “Bhagvad Gita,” and has legitimized T20 cricket as an “art form.”

After Kohli’s knock stunned Pakistan in India’s T20 World Cup opener, Chappell declared that the former captain is the “most complete Indian batsman” of his generation.

The 74-year-old, who called the innings a “song by God,” claimed that no other great batsman in history could have dismembered an opponent so viciously without jeopardizing the finer points of the game of batting as Kohli did last Sunday night.

“Kohli is the complete Indian batsman I’ve ever seen.” Only the greatest champions have the bravery and intelligence to take their imagination beyond the mortal level. Kohli possesses it. “Perhaps only Tiger Pataudi has come close to reaching such heights,” Chappell said in a column for “The Sydney Morning Herald.”

“Kohli performed an innings that was as close to a song by god’ as has ever been played in T20 cricket.” Kohli teased, then skilfully picked apart, an excellent Pakistan bowling attack till it lay unwound, spent, and exposed on the green carpet of the MCG, like a cat playing with a new skein of yarn” Greg Chappell Added.

Kohli’s performance against Pakistan legitimized T20 cricket: Greg Chappell

Greg Chappell claims that Kohli’s performance against Pakistan “legitimized” 20-over cricket. In all the years I’ve spent watching cricket, it was the most remarkable batting performance I’ve ever witnessed.

“Ironically, it was also the innings that legitimized T20 cricket as, dare I say it, an art form, more than any that I have seen in the past 15 years. Nobody can dismiss T20 cricket as simply entertainment ever again,” said Greg Chappell.
