IND vs ZIM: Hopefully, Suryakumar Yadav Gets A Chance In Test Cricket, He'll Do Well – Gautam Gambhir

Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Gautam Gambhir is confident that the star middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav will perform well in Test cricket if gets the opportunity.

The 32-year-old Suryakumar Yadav has so far played 13 ODIs and 38 T20Is for the India National Cricket Team. He has been part of India’s Test squad for a few series but has not yet played red-ball cricket for the Indian team.

Speaking on Star Sports, Gambhir showered praise on the No.1 ranked T20I batter Suryakumar and said:

“Let’s not give him names like 360, there’s a lot of work to do. He’s got loads of talent. Whether it is 360, 180 or 1 degree, it doesn’t matter. He has the game. He knows what he’s doing. When a traditional coach sees him he can say, ‘he’s got an open stance, he doesn’t get behind the line’ but he has been successful with what he has got. He has scored runs at first-class cricket and in every format. Hopefully he gets a chance in Test cricket and he’ll do well.”

Gambhir further said that Suryakumar might not have the best cover drive, but his remarkable strike rate in T20Is makes him a more valuable player than others. He said:

“He (Suryakumar) might not have the best cover drive like the others (Indian batters) but he has that 180-strike rate which is much more valuable than that of the other Indian batters.”

Notably, Gambhir didn’t take Kohli’s name while making his comments, but it was evident that he was talking about Kohli’s cover drive as his comments came after a segment was shown where most of the world’s top cricketers picked Kohli as the best cover driver.
