Pakistan National Cricket Team legends Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Malik have shared their views on Virat Kohli’s no-ball gesture to the umpire in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

In the match between India and Pakistan, Kohli protested for a waist-high no-ball in the last over of the match, which was bowled by Mohammad Nawaz, and umpire Marais Erasmus made a late decision in India’s favour.

On the last ball of the 16th over of the match between India and Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud bowled a short-pitched delivery to Kohli and the Indian batter pulled it towards the long leg.

As soon as Kohli played the pull shot, he extended his arms towards the square leg umpire, to let the umpire know that it was too high. Also, the umpire made the decision in India’s favour and declared it a no-ball as it was the second short ball off the over.

During a discussion on A Sports, Akram shared his views on Kohli’s no-ball gesture and said:

“I think it’s a natural thing for the batsman, if they see a wide, they gesture to the umpire anyway. I don’t know the laws of today. Maybe a present player can tell us.”

Younis, meanwhile, said that Kohli is one of the most famous players and his gestures put the umpires under pressure.

“Shakib is saying you do your batting, let the umpires do their work. He is saying the same things that we said. That if you are going to call something, you are going to put pressure on the umpire, then of course he is a big name. So sometimes umpires are under pressure.”

Shoaib Malik during the same discussion on A Sports said:

“Shakib Al Hasan was probably saying that because you gestured, that’s why the umpire gave a no ball.”
