Team India head coach Rahul Dravid advocated the point of fielding the best Indian playing XI in the build-up to the T20 World Cup in October.

The Indian team is currently playing in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Rohit Sharma and his team have secured a place in the Super 4 stage with wins against Pakistan and Hong Kong in Group A.

India’s woes with injuries is not letting them be at ease after senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja became the latest to join the list.

Jadeja sustained a knee injury after the Hong Kong game and was replaced by Axar Patel in India’s 15-member squad.

India are already without the services of injured pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel in the continental competition.

We want to play with our best team leading into T20 World Cup: Rahul Dravid

Dravid said that the workload of players might be managed only after the conclusion of the Asia Cup.

“There’s not going to be any workload management over the next three or four days, unless of course it’s forced upon us like, for example Jadeja,” Dravid said in a press conference on Saturday.

“Other than that, we’re looking at every single game to win it, try and win this tournament and do the best that we can. We’ll have time after that to manage the workloads. From now on leading into the World Cup, we really want to be playing our best squad as and when possible,” he added.

Don’t want to jump to any conclusions: Rahul Dravid on Ravindra Jadeja

There were reports doing the round that Jadeja might undergo surgery and that might rule him out of the World Cup. Dravid, however, wanted to wait for the results from the medical teams before confirming the news.

“Jadeja has obviously injured his knee and is obviously ruled out of the Asia Cup. He’s under the care of the medical team, he’s going to see the doctors, he’s going to see the experts. The World Cup is a fair way away so we don’t want to jump into any conclusions and rule him out or rule him in. We’ll see how it goes,” Dravid said.
