Netherlands' Stephan Myburgh Announces Retirement From International Cricket

Netherlands Cricket Team had a memorable T20 World Cup where they not only qualified for the Super 12 stage but created an upset by defeating South Africa. Due to that victory, the Netherlands ended South Africa’s journey in the tournament and qualified for T20 World Cup 2024.
The Dutch showed great fighting spirit as the team’s journey was not that easy. The Netherlands won 2 matches out of 5 and made a statement to the World Cricket that they are not a finished product.
Stephan Myburgh Bids Adieu To International Cricket
The veteran left-handed batter took to his Instagram Handle and announced his retirement. “Hanging up the boots….,” he wrote in a post on Instagram on Monday. “To God be the glory!!! Blessed to have made my first-class debut 17 seasons ago and international debut 12 seasons ago. Never in my dreams would I have imagined finishing my career at the World Cup with a win against @cricket_south_africa_ my blood will always be green.” said Myburgh
“As much as a sportsman always want to win I had a tear for my beloved country. I am thankful for @kncbcricket and the Netherlands that’s now my home and have too many people to thank for my career. Jesus, @tineke.myburgh , friends and family, sponsors and all the supporters out there I can only say thanks!!! #GodIsGood #Blessed can’t wait to see my girls (sic).” he added.

Stephen Myburgh Invaluable
The 38-year-old batter made his International debut in 2011 and in T20Is, he has 915 runs at an average of 21.78 with a strike rate of 114.51 in 45 matches. The batter was famous for his brisk hitting as he used to provide good starts to the team.
It won’t be wrong to say that in his last match, he played a terrific knock of 37 runs in 30 balls as he laid the foundation for the rest of the batters. The management would be worried as finding a replacement of his calibre won’t be easy when is ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is around the corner.
