Jos Buttler-led England National Cricket Team won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 final by 5 wickets against Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, November 13.

England National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The decision turned out to be an amazing one for the side as the English bowlers dominated at the MCG and managed to restrict Pakistan to 137/8.

Sam Curran was once again the best bowler for his side as he finished his spell with the figures of 4-0-12-3. Also, Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan bagged two wickets each while Ben Stokes picked up one wicket.

Chasing the target, England lost three wickets inside powerplay, including the big wickets of in-form openers – Alex Hales and Jos Buttler. However, Buttler’s aggressive innings helped the Three Lions score 49 runs in the powerplay.

In the end, big-match performer Ben Stokes remained unbeaten and scored crucial 52 runs off 49 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six, to help England win their second T20 World Cup title.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, T20 World Cup-winning captain Jos Buttler said that they are just “reaping the rewards” for performing well consistently over the last few years. He asserted:

“It is (the icing on the cake). To win the T20 WC now, immensely proud of everyone here. It has been a long journey and few changes but we are reaping the rewards of how we have played in the last few years. It’s been a fantastic tournament.”

Jos Buttler said that the England tour of Pakistan 2022, which was just before the World Cup and consisted of 7 T20I games, was very valuable for the side. He also said that the players showed great character after losing to Ireland in the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. He said:

“We went to Pakistan before coming here, which was a valuable time for the group and this felt a long way after the Ireland match but the character we showed from thereon in must-win games is amazing.”

Jos Buttler further praised England white-ball head coach Matthew Mott. He said:

“He (Matty Motts) has fitted in really well. We have got a few Australians in the coaching staff with us in this tournament and he has led the coaching staff really well, gives the players great freedom.”

England National Cricket Team captain Jos Buttler was also highly impressed with the performance of senior leg-spinner Adil Rashid in the World Cup. He stated:

“Huge swing in the game, that was a fantastic over from Adil. He has been outstanding for us in the last three games, just the guy who makes things happen and his performance was outstanding.

“When you hit the right length there was a little bit of movement and they were obviously bowling at a good pace, not easy at all. We managed to get away to a start which controlled the run-rate and we bat deep as well.”

Buttler signed off by lavishing praise on the “ultimate competitor” Ben Stokes and said that he alongside Moeen Ali took the game away from Pakistan. He said:

“And that man again, Ben Stokes is there at the end. He is the ultimate competitor in anything he does and has the experience to bank on as well. He timed it perfectly, the impetus that he and Moeen Ali had just took it away from Pakistan.”
