Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Ireland, England, New Zealand, and Australia made up Group 1. Group 2 was made up of the Netherlands, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and India.

Each team competes in five round-robin matches in the Super 12s in accordance with the rules and playing conditions of the T20 World Cup. A win awards two points, while a game forfeit earns one point.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals after all teams have played each other once in their groups. The team with the most victories will be given the higher spot if two or more teams are tied on points, followed, if necessary, by the Net Run Rate (NRR).
