Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav hit a brilliant half-century in the India vs Netherlands ICC T20 World cup 2022 match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on October 27, 2022. India came into this match after a huge morale-boosting win over Pakistan, while the Netherlands suffered a heartbreak against Bangladesh by 9 runs in their first encounter.
India captain Rohit Sharma started off well by winning the toss and choosing to bat first on a used pitch on which South Africa had beaten Bangladesh in the first match of the day at the SCG. India came into this match unchanged.
KL Rahul’s bad form continued as he was trapped LBW by Netherlands’ Paul van Meerkeren for 9 runs, while Rohit Sharma had a sedated start. But then the Indian captain opened his shoulder and scored 53 in 39 balls with 3 sixes and 4 fours to his name, before getting out to Fred Klaassen in the 12th over when the score was 84 runs.
Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav then pressed on the accelerator as the Netherland bowlers tried to tighten the screws given the slowness of the pitch. Virat Kohli continued his good form and made his second consecutive half-century, as he finished on 62* in 44 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes to his name.

However, the maximum impetus that the Indian innings received came from the bat of Suryakumar Yadav. Despite the slowness of the pitch, Suryakumar, who had looked good in his 15-run knock against Pakistan, ran hard and took advantage of the angles to score quick runs.
He hit 7 fours in his knock until the final ball of the Indian innings, when he was on 44 and then hit Logan van Beek for a six over the deep backward square leg. And completed his half-century in just 25 balls, finishing on 51* with 7 fours and 1 six to his name.
His innings was lauded wholeheartedly on Twitter and here are some of the best tweets.

Not the easiest pitch to bat and yet @surya_14kumar looks in a diff zone. Virat pushing now as well. #IndvNed #ICCT20WorldCup2022 @RevSportz

This is why I love this game . A man in form SKY comes and plays as if there is nothing in the pitch. 2 men who are all time greats are not in their top form but still gather all what they have to score 50’s. #IndvsNed #RohitSharma?

I know it’s tough to fit in at the moment ,but with the current form SKY is better in dominating bowlers when they are bowling well . #INDvsNED

50 for Suryakumar Yadav (4th fastest 50 for T20 WC for India) as India finish with 179/2@RevSportz @BoriaMajumdar #T20WorldCup #INDvNED

A powerful display of batting by Rohit, Kohli and the superstar Surya. All depends on the line & length of our bowlers now. India should look to restrict Netherlands under 130 runs. #INDvsNED pic.twitter.com/Ln3i25dQCI

Three half centuries for India as the top order moves into full throttle. Plumb pitch, mediocre bowling and poor catching obviously helped, but this was nonetheless a powerful batting performance. Rahul must be kicking himself for missing out!
