Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam almost made a meal of India’s Axar Patel’s run out in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 match between the two Asian giants being played at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 23rd.
India won the toss and chose to bowl first and they got the advantage of the fresh MCG pitch and the overcast conditions as Arshdeep Singh got Babar Azam LBW for a golden duck and then Mohammad Rizwan was bounced out by the left-handed pacer in his next over.
Iftikhar Ahmed (51) and Shan Masood (52*) then added 76 runs for the third wicket with Ahmed hitting Axar Patel for 3 sixes in an over, which proved to be his only over in the match. Then Hardik Pandya came into action and removed Shadab Khan (5), Haider Ali (2) and Mohammad Nawaz (9) after Mohammed Shami had gotten rid of the dangerous Iftikhar.
But Pakistan came back strongly in their last 5 overs, making 53 runs with Shaheen contributing 16 and even Haris Rauf hitting a six in the last over as Pakistan finished with 159/8 in 20 overs.
Arshdeep Singh took 3/32 and Hardik Pandya took 3/30 in their 4-over quotas respectively.
India Gets Into Trouble With The Bat; Axar Patel’s Poor Outing Against Pakistan Continues After Getting Runout
Though the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul started off confidently, Pakistani bowlers decided to forego looking for swing and banged the ball hard in the pitch to get a bounce and got Naseem got KL Rahul playing onto his stumps for 4 and Rohit Sharma caught in slips off Haris Rauf for 4.
Suryakumar Yadav looked good for his 15, but was out unable to play the bounce from Haris Rauf and while Axar Patel was promoted up the order to negate the spinners, he was run out after a misunderstanding with Virat Kohli.
On the first ball of the 7th over, Axar played the ball on the leg side and set off for a single. But Virat Kohli stopped in his tracks as there was no run. Meanwhile, as Axar turned back, Babar almost messed up collecting the ball and when he threw, Rizwan couldn’t collect it properly and felt that Axar’s dive had saved him.
But replays showed that when the stumps were disturbed, Axar’s bat was out of the crease and the ball had hit the stumps after coming out of Rizwan’s gloves. And the TV umpire decided that Axar was out, leaving India 31/4 in 7 overs.
