ICC Women's World Cup Final: Twitter Reacts As Australia Claims Seventh Women’s World Cup Title By Beating England By 71 Runs In The Final

The final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 saw Australia Women dominating their England counterparts at Christchurch on April 3, 2022, and claiming their seventh title as they won the final by 71 runs. Alyssa Healy shined with the bat, winning the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament awards easily.

England captain Heather Knight had won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision she might have later regretted.

It was complete and utter dominance from Australian batters as Alyssa Healy and Rachel Haynes put on 160 runs for the opening wicket. Haynes made 68 in 93 balls and when she fell, Beth Mooney joined Healy, who was on a completely different level in the final.

Mooney made 62 in 47 balls, adding 156 runs for the second wicket. But the Australian innings belonged to the mastery and brilliance of Alyssa Healy, who slammed a record-breaking 170 in 138 balls with 26 fours to her name. This was the highest individual score in the World Cup finals, bettering Adam Gilchrist’s 149* against Sri Lanka in the 2007 World Cup in West Indies.

Healy also became the first batter to score over 500 runs in a single edition of the Women’s World Cup, ending on 509 runs in the 2022 Women’s World Cup. Australia finished on 356/5 in 50 overs, the highest ever score in a Women’s World Cup final and for England, Anya Shrubsole picked 3/46.

Nat Sciver’s Valiant 148* Goes In Vain As England Suffers A Brutal Heartbreak

The England women had a daunting task of chasing down 356 runs, which were 3 runs short of what Australia men’s team put up against India in the finals of the 2003 World Cup when they made 359 runs.

The total was a daunting one and despite a valiant 148 from Nat Sciver, England fell short as Megan Schutt removed Tammy Beaumont for 27 and Danni Wyatt for 4 runs. Heather Knight fell for 26 to Alana King. Sciver remained unbeaten on 148, hitting 15 fours and 1 six in 121 balls faced.

The remainder of England’s batting couldn’t cope with the pressure of chasing such a huge target and folded at 285 in 43.4 overs and lost the match by 71 runs. Australia’s Alana King with 3/64 and Jess Jonassen with 3/57 were the picks of the bowlers.

This was Australia’s 7th Women’s World Cup title win. Alyssa Healy was named the Player of the Match for her 170-run knock and Player of the Tournament for her record-breaking haul of 509 runs.
