BAN vs SL 1st Test Day 2 – Bangladesh innings: Vishwa Fernando troubles hosts with his four-wicket haul

Continuing with the overnight score of 32/3, Bangladesh didn’t have a great start with the bat on Day 2. Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy (12) perished early as Lahiru Kumara was removed. The hosts came under immense pressure and were left tottering at 53/4.

Shahadat Hossain (18) tried to get going but he too couldn’t carry on the start that he got. Lahiru Kumara grabbed his second wicket of the day to keep his team at the top. Litton Das then joined Taijul Islam and the duo tried to bail the team out of the trouble.

The duo added 41 runs and looked quite settled at the crease. But Lahiru Kumara made sure that he brought his team back into the game again. He trapped Litton Das in lbw for 23 runs as Bangladesh saw themselves reeling at 124/6.

Taijul Islam at the other played a decent knock and fell just 3 runs short of his half-century. Kasun Rajitha removed him for 47 runs. After that, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (11), Shoriful Islam (15), and Khaled Ahmed (22) made valuable contributions as Bangladesh’s innings ended on 188 runs.

For Sri Lanka, Vishwa Fernando was the pick of the bowlers as he picked four wickets. Apart from him, Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara grabbed three wickets each. Based on their sensational bowling, Sri Lanka took a massive lead of 92 runs in the first innings.

Veteran Angelo Mathews (22) and Dimuth Karunaratne then tried to extend the lead for Sri Lanka. But Bangladesh yet again made a comeback as Taijul Islam removed Matthews before Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in and sent Dinesh Chandimal packing for a 10-ball duck.
