New Zealand Test skipper Tim Southee came up with a massive statement on his captaincy after the loss against Australia. He stated that he is unsure if he will captain the team in Asian conditions and will make a decision when they will tour.

New Zealand suffered a disappointing 3-wicket loss against Australia in the second Test of the series. This meant that their wait to win the series against Australia continued as they suffered a 2-0 whitewash against the ICC World Test Championship winners.

After losing the first game by a massive margin of 172 runs, New Zealand looked favorites to win the second game. They were in the bossing position in the game. But they failed to hold their nerves and lost the game by the narrow margin of just 3 wickets.

Tim Southee’s performance in the game wasn’t up to the mark as he failed to make a big impact in the game. He picked up just two wickets in the game. With him being the senior pacer and skipper, it was expected that he would help take his team early wickets and win the game to level the series.

Tim Southee’s next assignment as a skipper will be against, Sri Lanka Afghanistan, and India and it will be a huge challenge for him. The last time he captained a team in Asian conditions was in the series against Bangladesh and the pacers in that tour played very little part in the game.

Tim Southee said that he will decide to captain the team in Asian conditions only around the India tour. He admitted fast bowlers don’t play a bigger role there and will see how they approach that. But he is currently focused on how they can improve after a series loss against Australia. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“We’ll see. You go to Asia, the make-up of the side changes slightly with spin becoming the main threat in that part of the world. But we’ll see when we get there. We’ll deal with this tonight and look to move forward to what’s to come.”

We had moments through both Test matches – Tim Southee on Test series loss against Australia

New Zealand are yet to win Test series against Australia since 1993 and they had a great chance this time around. But they suffered another loss. Tim Southee admitted that Australia are a tough side to beat and they didn’t play their best cricket.

The New Zealand Test skipper stated that they had their moments in the game but they couldn’t cash on that. Speaking about the same, he added:

“I’m not too sure. They’re a tough side to beat, not only in Australia but when they travel as well. I think when you play the best you’ve got to be at your best for those periods, that little bit longer.

“We had moments through both Test matches where we could have been a little bit better at times and then things could have been slightly different. But it was just another great Test and there’s been plenty of those over the last few years,” he concluded.
