Updated ICC World Test Championship Points Table After NZ vs AUS 1st Test

Australia secured a comfortable 172-run victory during the first Test of the two-match series against New Zealand in Wellington. The Pat Cummins-led Australia side retained their third place in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table.
Australian bowlers bundled out the opposition for 196 runs in the final innings at the Basin Reserve on Sunday, March 3. Veteran spinner Nathan Lyon bagged a six-wicket haul. Josh Hazlewood took two wickets, while Travis Head and Cameron Green took one each.
Cameron Green was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant batting performance in the first innings. The young all-rounder scored an unbeaten 174 runs off 275 balls, including 23 boundaries and five sixes. He helped the team reach a formidable total of 383 runs.

Australia secured their seventh victory in 11 Test matches in the ongoing WTC cycle. Australia recorded their 17th victory against New Zealand in the last 20 Tests. Australia’s points percentage rose to 59.09% and trails behind India and New Zealand in the table.
India moved to the top spot of the WTC points table. The Men in Blue claimed the top position with a points percentage of 64.58. The Rohit Sharma-led team has the opportunity to solidify their lead as they face England in the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala.
New Zealand dropped to the second spot in the World Test Championship rankings after a recent loss. The Black Caps won three out of five Test matches in the ongoing cycle. However, they previously suffered a loss against Bangladesh in away conditions last year.
Pakistan and Bangladesh hold the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, with the West Indies, South Africa, and England following closely in the rankings. Sri Lanka, currently at the bottom of the table, stands as the sole team to have secured any points in the cycle.

Nathan Lyon Secures 10-Wicket Haul In Series Opener
Nathan Lyon played a pivotal role in Australia’s commanding 172-run victory over New Zealand in the first Test. The 36-year-old spinner showcased his skill by picking up 10 wickets in the match, with exceptional bowling figures of 6-65 off 27 overs in the second innings.
New Zealand started the day at 111-3, requiring 258 more runs for an improbable win. The home team lost the wicket of Rachin Ravindra (59) in the seventh over of the day. The Black Caps lost their last seven wickets for just 70 runs on the fourth day of the series opener.
