Bangladesh pacer Khaled Ahmed made a bold move by attempting to run out at the non-striker’s end during the first Test match against Sri Lanka. Khaled Ahmed tried to dislodge the stumps at the non-striker end during Sri Lanka’s second innings of the ball match.

In recent years, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have had a significant cricketing rivalry. Their matches are marked by intense competition and moments of controversy, exemplified by an incident in the 2023 ODI World Cup where Angelo Mathews was dismissed ‘timed out’.

The rivalry persisted with symbolic gestures exchanged between the teams during Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh. Following Sri Lanka’s T20I series win, they mimicked Shakib Al Hasan’s watch gesture from the World Cup. In response, Bangladesh wicketkeeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim celebrated their ODI series victory with a helmet gesture.

Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis forged a substantial partnership to extend the team’s lead in the second innings. The duo added over 100 runs for the seventh wicket, leaving Bangladesh eager to secure a breakthrough and regain momentum in the game.

Khaled Ahmed made a daring attempt to run out Kamindu Mendis at the non-striker’s end on the third day. While there appeared to be a potential run-out at the bowler’s end before bowling the delivery, the attempt to dislodge the stumps was unsuccessful.

Fancode took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the clip on social media, writing, “Drama on the field! Khaled Ahmed’s attempt to Mankad Kamindu Mendis ends in a twist – but no go! What’s your take on this? Fair play or missed opportunity?”

Replays clearly suggested Kamindu Mendis was out of the crease, potentially leading to a run-out opportunity missed by Bangladesh. Despite this, the Sri Lankan batter achieved his second century of the match, which is only his second appearance in Test cricket.

Dhananjaya de Silva also achieved his second century of the match but was caught out after chipping a long hop to Zakir Hasan off Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s delivery. The batting duo contributed significantly, as the team’s lead exceeded 430 runs by tea on the third day.

Sri Lanka secured a 92-run lead in the first innings. The visitors are aiming to extend it further in their second innings of the game. Currently, Kamindu Mendis is anchoring the team’s batting with an unbeaten century, supported by Prabath Jayasuriya at the crease.
