ICC World Test Championship 2021-23: Updated Points Table After 5th Test Between Australia And England

India and Australia are set to play 4 Tests in Feb-March 2023. South Africa and West Indies will also play 2 Tests during the WTC 2021-23 cycle. New Zealand and Sri Lanka will also play a two-match Test series. Both these series will take place in March.

Talking about WTC 2021-23 points table, Australia takes the top spot with a PCT of 75.56. India takes the next spot with a PCT of 58.93. Sri Lanka and South Africa are next in the 3rd and 4th spots respectively. Sri Lanka has a PCT of 53.33 while South Africa has a PCT of 48.72.

Only 4 teams have a chance to qualify for ICC WTC final. They are Australia, India, Sri Lanka, and South Africa. However, out of these, India and Australia have the highest chance to qualify for the WTC final.

The WTC 2021-23 final will take place in June 2023 in England. The exact dates and venue of the Test match will be announced by ICC later. India takes the 2nd spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table with a PCT of 58.93. India has played 5 Test series so far. India’s first Test series against England ended in a tie 2-2. Later, India won a 2-match series against New Zealand 1-0.

India lost a Test series against South Africa 1-2 and later defeated Sri Lanka in a Test series 2-0.  India recently defeated Bangladesh in a Test series 2-0. India is scheduled to play a four-match home series against Australia in February 2023. India still has a chance to qualify for the final.

Pakistan

With a PCT of 38.10, Pakistan grabs the 7th spot in WTC 2023 points table. Pakistan has played 6 Test series so far in the tournament. Pakistan tied a Test series against West Indies 2-2.  Later, They won a Test series against Bangladesh 2-0.

They lost a Test series to Australia 0-1 and tied a Test series against Sri Lanka 1-1. Pakistan lost a Test series to England recently 3-0. They draw a Test series against New Zealand 0-0. Pakistan do not have more series in WTC.

West Indies

West Indies takes the 6th spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table with a PCT of 40.91. West Indies has played 5 Test series so far. West Indies tied a Test series against Pakistan 1-1. Later, they lost a Test series against Sri Lanka 0-2. West Indies defeated England in a Test series 1-0 earlier this year.

Later, West Indies also defeated Bangladesh in a two-match Test series 2-0. West Indies lost a Test series to Australia 2-0 and now cannot qualify for the final. They are scheduled to play a two-match home series against South Africa in March 2023.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka takes the 4th spot in ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 points table with a PCT of 53.33. Sri Lanka has played 5 Test series in the tournament so far. Sri Lanka defeated West Indies in a two-match Test series 2-0. Later, they lost a three-match Test series to India 3-0.

Later, they won a Test series against Bangladesh 1-0 and tied a Test series against Australia (1-1) and Pakistan (1-1). Sri Lanka has a chance to qualify for the final and will play 1 more away Test series against New Zealand in March 2023.

Australia

Australia takes the top spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table with a PCT of 76.92. Australia has played just 4 Test series and is scheduled to play 2 more. They have a high chance of qualifying for the final. Australia won The Ashes 2022 against England 4-0 earlier in January 2022.

Later, they also won a Test series against Pakistan 1-0 and later tied a Test series against Sri Lanka 1-1. Australia also defeated West Indies 2-0 in a Test series recently. Australia is currently facing South Africa in a three-match home Test series which they lead 1-0. Australia will travel to India for a 4-match away Test series in March 2023.

South Africa

South Africa grabs the 3rd spot in ICC World Test Championship points table with a PCT of 54.55 South Africa is another team that can qualify for the final of the tournament. South Africa has played 4 Test series so far. South Africa defeated India in a Test series 2-1.

Later, South Africa tied a two-match Test series against New Zealand 1-1. South Africa defeated Bangladesh in a Test series 2-0 in March this year. Later, they lost a Test series to England 1-2. South Africa lost a Test series to Australia 1-2. South Africa will play a two-match away series against West Indies in March 2023.

England

England takes the 5th spot in ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 points table with a PCT of 46.97. England has played 6 Test series. England tied a series against India 2-2. Later, they lost to Australia in The Ashes 2022 0-4. England also lost to West Indies in a three-match Test series 0-1.

However, England won Test series against New Zealand (3-0) and South Africa (2-1). They also defeated Pakistan in a Test series 3-0. Now, they don’t have any series to play in the tournament. England is already out of the race to the final.

New Zealand

New Zealand takes the 8th spot in ICC World Test Championship. The defending champions of the tournament are already out of the race to the final. New Zealand has played 4 Test series so far. New Zealand lost a two-match Test series to India 1-0. Later, they tied a Test series against Bangladesh 1-1.

They also tied a Test series a South Africa 1-1 and later lost a three-match Test series against England 3-0. They are currently facing Pakistan in a two-match Test series. New Zealand is set to play a home two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in March 2023.

 

Bangladesh

Bangladesh takes the last 9th spot in ICC World Test Championship points table with a PCT of just 13.33. Bangladesh has played 6 Test series. At the start, Bangladesh lost a two-match Test series against Pakistan 0-2.

Later, they tied a Test series against New Zealand 1-0. In January this year, Bangladesh lost a Test series to South Africa 2-0 and later lost a Test series against Sri Lanka 0-1. In June 2022, Bangladesh lost a Test series to West Indies 2-0. in December 2022, Bangladesh lost a Test series to India 2-0. Now, they have no more games to play in the tournament and are already out of the final’s race.
