Australia Unveil New Jersey For Next Two Seasons, Set To Don Green Jersey In T20Is For The First Time

Ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 and the upcoming home summer season, Australia have unveiled their kits for the next two seasons. The brand new version of the Australia jersey will incorporate First Nations artwork across all formats for both men’s and women’s teams. The First Nations artwork is the oldest unbroken tradition of art in the world, dating back over 50,000 years.

The kit will also have Walkabout Wickets artwork designed by Aunty Fiona Clarke on the side panels of the shirts. Clarke is the great-granddaughter of James ‘Mosquito’ Couzens, who played in the Aboriginal XI in a historic match at the MCG in 1866. He was also a part of the Australian team that visited England in 1868.

It was the first Australian sporting team to play overseas. Clarke created the artwork ahead of the 2016 Boxing Day Test to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 1866 match. Australia have also decided to do away with the black kits for the T20Is and will now don green jerseys in the shortest format of the game. It will be the first time that Australia will wear green jerseys in the T20I format.

While the kits for men’s and women’s teams are different, there are some subtle differences. One of those differences is that the men’s T20 kit is collarless, but the women’s kit has collars. In addition, the men’s kit still does not have a sponsor while Commonwealth Bank remains the sponsor for the Australian women’s team.

Australia eye World Cup:

Australia’s men team will currently be focusing on the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. Before the tournament gets underway next month, they are likely to reveal their playing kit for the marquee event. The team from Down Under is eyeing a record-extending sixth World Cup title in ODIs.

With five titles, Australia are the most successful side in the history of the World Cup. They are scheduled to open their World Cup campaign on October 8 against hosts India in Chennai. Before the World Cup, India and Australia will also play a three-match ODI series. The series is scheduled to begin on September 22 in Mohali.
