India Praised By Fans On X After Winning Over Australia In 1st ODI And Becoming No.1 Ranked Team Across Formats

The first ODI of the three-match series between KL Rahul-led India National Cricket Team and Pat Cummins-led Australia National Cricket Team was played on Friday, 22 September, at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.

India National Cricket Team defeated the Aussies by 5 wickets in the match to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The second ODI is set to be hosted by the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on September 24.

Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Mohammed Shami provided his side with a terrific start in the match as he removed Mitchell Marsh in the first over. However, a 94-run partnership between Steve Smith and David Warner pushed India to the back foot.

After that, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, and Marcus Stoinis chipped in with good 25-plus scores that were crucial as Indian bowlers were picking wickets at regular intervals.

In the end, skipper Pat Cummins showed his batting prowess and smashed 21 runs off just 9 balls, with 2 fours and 1 six, to help his side reach 276 runs. Also, the top performer for the Men In Blue was Mohammed Shami, who bagged a 5-wicket haul. While Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja got one wicket each.

Chasing the target, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad showcased a batting masterclass and together they provided the home side with with an excellent start. They both scored good 70s and added 142 runs in 130 balls, before being cleaned by the star Aussie leg-spinner Adam Zampa. As India lost Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, they were in some trouble at 185/4.

However, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav joined forces and paved the way for the comeback. The duo had an 80-run stand and Suryakumar Yadav hit a good half-century after registering three golden ducks in his last series against Australia.

In the end, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten as India completed the run-chase in 48.4 overs and clinched the victory in the absence of some key players.
