Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has urged the Men in Blue to hold onto their catches in the remaining matches against Australia heading into the ICC World Cup 2023. India won the first match by five wickets after brilliant batting displays from the openers followed by KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav.
In hindsight it was a clinical performance however, there were way too many misfields and drop catches in the game. The likes of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan dropped easy chances. To add to that there were misfields and lapses behind the stumps from KL Rahul as well.
Former Indian cricket team star Mohammed Kaif cautioned the side ahead of the Cricket World Cup. He took to X and pointed out India???s mishaps in the field. He warned the team saying that fielding is equally important in winning matches as batting and bowling.
???Caution: India may drop the World Cup if they don???t catch well. Batting and bowling can win matches but so can catches,??? he posted on X.

Meanwhile, pacer Mohammed Shami has backed the management???s decision to rotate their bowlers in the ODI series. Shami pointed out that the management has been keen to try out different bowlers based on conditions and opponents. As per him, only two out of the three first-choice Indian pacers will play at one point in time. Siraj was rested from the first ODI as Bumrah and Shami paired up to dismantle Australia. Shami picked up his career-best ODI figures of 5/51 in the process.
???This is a part and parcel of the game. It is important to understand the team???s needs. It is not possible that you will always be part of the playing XI and team combinations,??? said Shami in his post-match press conference.
???When we play regularly, someone or the other will have to sit out. There is no point being frustrated about it. Obviously, it is good if you are in the XI but it is also crucial to be understanding when on the bench. That role is also very important,??? added Shami.
The final two ODIs will be played in Indore (September 24, Sunday) and Rajkot (September 27, Wednesday).
