Pat Cummins-led Australia will be adding final touches to their World Cup preparation in the upcoming three-match ODI series against India. The series is scheduled to get underway on Friday (September 22) in Mohali.

The series will give both teams the opportunity to finetune their World Cup preparations. And Pat Cummins has revealed that he would be using the series as an opportunity to bowl Adam Zampa in the death overs. The leg-spinner is an integral member of the Australian ODI side.

His form, however, has not been up to mark in recent times. Earlier this month, he was taken to the cleaners by South African batsmen during the five-match ODI series. In the fourth game of the series, Adam Zampa conceded 113 runs without picking up a wicket in 10 overs.

His performance in the fifth ODI was not impressive either as he conceded 70 runs in 10 overs. But those poor performances won’t deter Pat Cummins from relying on Adam Zampa in death overs. Speaking ahead of the first ODI against India, the fast bowler said:

“Zamps, he’s effective at not only keeping the run rate down but he can take a couple of wickets at the death, which is really important as well and sometimes it’s a bit harder for pace bowlers to do that.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we keep two, three or four overs up our sleeve with him,” added Pat Cummins.

Adam Zampa as a death bowler:

Adam Zampa might have struggled to contain the runs against South Africa but he has been one of the best death bowlers in ODIs in recent times. No Australian bowler has picked up more wickets than him in the final 10 overs since the 2019 World Cup. Since the conclusion of the last World Cup, the leg-spinner has picked up 17 wickets in the final 10.

Adam Zampa has a good record in India too. When Australia visited India for a three-match ODI series earlier this year, he was the highest wicket-taker among the spinners. He has tasted good success against Indian batsmen most notably Virat Kohli and would be looking to play a big role in his team’s pursuit of a record-extending sixth World Cup title.
