Indian skipper Rohit Sharma addressed the pre-match press conference heading into the third ODI against Australia in Rajkot on Wednesday, September 27. India have already won the series and are the number-one ranked ODI side ahead of the World Cup.

Rohit responded to reporters asking him about India’s top ranking in ODI cricket. The Indian skipper who will be leading his team in the World Cup at home next month said that the team is not too worried about rankings but thinking about the performances that they need to produce.

“It’s pretty good. Honestly, it doesn’t really matter what kind of ranking you go in with, what sort of performances you have had in the past. Yes, it’s a good positive thing to take forward, but you know that sport is played in the present” said Rohit.

We Have Bigger Things To Worry About: Rohit Sharma

Hinting about the injury to key players, Rohit further said that the team has bigger things to worry about. Axar Patel who was picked in the series has not played the first two games and is reportedly out of the third ODI. He has not yet recovered from his left quadriceps strain. He is currently rehabilitating at the NCA in Bengaluru.

“So, we’ve got to play very good cricket on the present day. I don’t think anyone will be worried about the rankings at this point because we have bigger things to worry about” he further added.

India are eyeing to clean sweep Australia with a win in Rajkot. Earlier this year, India lost 2-1 to Australia at home at Rohit’s captaincy. Thus the Indian skipper had a mellowed response to the possibility of cleansweeping Australia.

“As a skipper, you would not look into all those things like a whitewash is on the cards. You would want to play good cricket, and you want to achieve certain things on the field. The last two games, I wasn’t part of it, but I saw a lot of it, and I thought we played really good cricket and achieved a lot,” Rohit said.

Both India and Australia meet in the next 10 days for their opening World Cup game in Chennai on October 8 after the third ODI.
