Shubman Gill Expresses Delight At Playing An International Match In Mohali, Says 'It Was A Dream For Me'

Young Indian opener Shubman Gill expressed his delight at playing an international cricket match at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Shubman Gill stated that it was a childhood dream come true, as he had often watched games at the stadium as a spectator.
Shubman Gill scored a brilliant half-century against Australia in the first ODI on his home ground on Friday, September 22. The right-handed batter scored 74 runs off 63 deliveries as the hosts registered a 5-wicket victory over the Pat Cummins-led team in the series opener.
Had Seen So Many Matches Here As A Spectator – Shubman Gill
Speaking to Jio Cinema after the match, Shubman Gill stated that he had previously played IPL matches in Mohali, but playing an international match in front of his family was a special moment for him.
“I was 7 years old when we came to Mohali for the first time. Since I had seen so many matches here as a spectator, it was a dream for me to play an international match in Mohali. I’d played a couple of IPL matches but to play an international match with my family watching was special,” Gill told JioCinema.
The visitors set a target of 277 runs after losing the toss. Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad provided a good start for the team with a 142-run opening partnership. Gaikwad smashed his maiden ODI half-century, scoring 71 runs off 77 balls with the help of 10 boundaries.
Expect Me To Play According To The Situation – Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill said that Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan seized their opportunities. Gill also mentioned that his strength lies in playing according to the situation to maximize his performance.
“Both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan have grabbed their opportunities. They are all very eager to perform and are showing it when they get a chance,” Gill added.
“I feel my strength is to know when to attack and when to defend. You can expect me to play according to the situation at the World Cup. I will try to adapt to the opponents and conditions and give myself the best possible chance to do well,” he concluded.
The KL Rahul-led team started the three-match ODI series on a high note with a convincing victory. The second match between the two teams will be played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, September 24.
