Jasprit Bumrah took nine wickets in the second Test in Visakhapatnam including a six-wicket haul in the first inning as India won the second Test by 106 runs to level the series. The series is at 1-1 with the teams on a break before the third Test in Rajkot on February 15.
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Ben Foakes (36) and Tom Hartley (36) as he cleaned up the tail to help his side win the second Test. His bowling prowess overshadowed Yashasvi Jaiswal’s maiden double ton as the jury awarded him the Man of the Match for his exploits with the ball.
Speaking on Shy Sports with Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain, the former England captain, decoded the difficulties facing Bumrah due to his unorthodox action as a fast bowler.
“It was a fantastic Test match. Brilliant pitch and brilliant sides going hard at each other. One way or the other England fighting hard as they often do. They often give away a first-inning lead as they did in the first Test.
“But they fought back well with their performance yesterday. And I think it was really the magic of Jasprit Bumrah. He got 3 today, but that spell in the first innings – 6 for 40 odd, blew away England for 250 on a really good flat pitch. The magic of Bumrah and the ball to Ollie Pope, that spell he bowled was, in the end, the difference between the two sides,” Hussain said.

“No I think someone like Lasith Malinga with that slingy action would have been a nightmare. I did face him once he hit me on the foot in a warm up game in Sri Lanka. The one I struggled with was Courtney Walsh. Courtney used to create the angle.
“He used to lean away and the ball you think is coming in and then it would nip away. And Bumrahy has a bit of that but also because of the braced front leg and the straight elbow, he releases it like a foot closer,” said Hussain.
The former England skipper also pointed out that Jasprit Bumrah’s stuttery run-up is also one of the many reasons why the modern batters struggle to pick him off the hand and gauge his pace.
“The stuttery run-up you know its a nightmare, you know its coming at 90-plus miles an hour, you know its going to reverse, you dont know which way its going, you are thinking when should I move, when should I get my triggers in and he is stuttering his way into you, it must be a complete and utter nightmare,” concluded Hussain on Bumrah’s action.
Jasprit Bumrah went past 150 wickets in this Test match. He currently stands at 155 wickets in just 34 Test matches at an astounding economy of 2.72 and an economy of 20.19. Bumrah is expected to be rested in the third Test in Rajkot with Mohammed Siraj expected to replace him in the XI.
