It was a Yashasvi Jaiswal show in Rajkot as India were able to win the third IND vs ENG Test match by 434 runs. England were wrapped up for 122 runs in their second innings while chasing down 557 courtesy of a fifer from Ravindra Jadeja. Jaiswal smashed his second consecutive Test double hundred and played a major role in India’s strong batting display.
Batting first on Day 1, India didn’t start off well as they lost top-order batsmen including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rajat Patidar in the space of just 33 runs. Mark Wood dismissed Jaiswal and Gill for 10 and 0 runs respectively whereas Patidar was removed by Tom Hartley for 9 runs. After the early damage, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja took the chance and added 204 runs from 329 balls for the 4th wicket.
The duo smashed centuries and laid a strong foundation for a big first innings score. While Rohit played an innings of 131 runs from 196 balls, Jadeja also followed his footsteps and played an innings of 112 runs from 225 balls. Debutants Sarfaraz Khan and Dhurv Jurel were also impressed with their batting skills and played innings of 62 and 46 runs respectively. In the end, India were wrapped up 445 runs in their first innings.

In reply to India’s first innings total, England were offered a steady start with openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett adding 89 runs for the first wicket. While Crawley was removed by Ravichandran Ashwin, he became his 500th wicket in Tests. Duckett took the onus on himself and smashed the fastest ton by an English batsman on Indian soil.
The left-handed English opener had put England on top after the end of Day 2. However, Day 3 didn’t start off well for England as they went through a terrible batting display. The three lions were only able to score 319 runs in their first innings, wherein, Duckett was the top run scorer with 153 runs whereas Mohammed Siraj picked up a four-wicket haul and helped India come back in the match.
India put up a fabulous batting display while coming out to bat in their second innings. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal remained the top performers of the Indian second innings. Gill missed out on a hundred and was dismissed for 91 runs, Jaiswal smashed his 2nd double-hundred of the series.
Yashasvi Jaiswal put up an unbeaten partnership of 172 runs from just 158 balls along with Sarfaraz Khan for the 5th wicket. Jaiswal smashed his second Test double hundred and remained unbeaten on 214 runs from 236 balls with 14 fours and 12 sixes. Sarfaraz Khan also registered a pair of half-centuries and was not out of 68 runs from 72 balls. At last, India declared at 430/4 and handed England a target of 557 runs to win on the remaining Day 4 and 5.
No English bowler was able to leave an impact in the second innings. Out of six, Tom Hartley, Joe Root, and Rehan Ahmed were amongst the bowlers to grab a wicket and picked up 1 wicket each.
Chasing down the target, England were off to a poor start as they lost their first wicket for just 15 runs. Ben Duckett, who scored a ton in the first innings was the batsman to depart after scoring 4 runs from 15 balls. In the space of just 3 runs, Zak Crawley also made his way back to the dressing room and was trapped in front by Jarprit Bumrah for 11 runs off 26 balls.
From here, Ravindra Jadeja picked up 3 consecutive wickets and removed the likes of Jonny Bairstow (4), Joe Root (7) and Ben Stokes (15). Rehan Ahmed was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav for a duck. Ravichandran Ashwin also joined the party and removed Tom Hartley for 16 runs, Ben Foakes fell against Ravindra Jadeja for 16 runs. At last Ravindra Jadeja ended the innings with a fifer and the three lions were wrapped up for 122 runs.
