There is little clarity over the availability of KL Rahul for the fifth and final Test between India and England, scheduled to be played from March 7 in Dharamsala. The right-handed batsman has missed the last three Tests of the series after suffering a quadricep strain in the first Test last month.

After the first Test, he and Ravindra Jadeja (hamstring injury) had to travel to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Later, both the players were named in the squad for the last three Tests of the five-match series although their participation was subject to fitness.

And while Jadeja recovered in time for the third Test in Rajkot, KL Rahul could not. After he was ruled out of the third Test, the BCCI stated that the player was close to regaining full fitness.

“Mr. Rahul has reached 90 percent of match fitness and is progressing well under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will continue his recovery process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to be completely match-fit for the fourth and fifth Test,” stated the BCCI.

However, the right-handed batsman missed the fourth Test as well. According to a report, the batsman was not confident to return to action even though he was declared fit by the BCCI medical team. Later, India batting coach Vikram Rathour gave a contrasting update on the batsman, saying that the team management was unsure about his fitness.

KL Rahul travels to London:

With little clarity over KL Rahul’s availability, Cricbuzz has reported that the Karnataka batsman has not fully recovered. His situation is now being assessed by the NCA and BCCI officials. The report further added that the star batsman has been sent overseas for an expert opinion and has been undergoing treatment for close to a week since. The batsman is likely in London for his treatment.

KL Rahul is experiencing pain in his right quadriceps, for which he underwent surgery last year. As per the report, there is still stiffness and the BCCI and the team management are not willing to take any risk ahead of a busy season.

The batsman will be hoping to recover fully and return to action soon ahead of the upcoming season of the IPL where he is set to lead Lucknow Super Giants. He is also expected to be a part of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in June.
