Kuldeep Yadav, on Thursday (March 7), once again proved his worth by giving India two crucial breakthroughs in the first session of day one of the ongoing fifth Test against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. The left-arm spinner did not get a chance in the playing eleven for the first Test before an unfortunate injury to Ravindra Jadeja saw him play the second Test.
He made an instant impact by taking 4 wickets in the game as India won the game by 106 runs. Jadeja returned for the third Test but Kuldeep Yadav managed to retain his spot and picked up four wickets.
In the fourth Test in Ranchi, he went wicketless in the first innings before playing a crucial knock of 28 runs. In the second innings, the Uttar Pradesh star came up with a brilliant spell and picked up four wickets. In the ongoing fifth Test, he gave India two important wickets after the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Ravichandran Ashwin failed to break the opening wicket stand between Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett.
Kuldeep Yadav goes past Bishan Singh Bedi:
Brought into the attack in the 18th over, Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Duckett for 27 in his very first over to end his 64-run stand with Crawley. The chinaman spinner struck at the stroke of lunch as well, dismissing Ollie Pope for 11 to help India end the session on a good note.
The wicket of Duckett helped Kuldeep Yadav move past the legendary Bishan Singh Bedi in the list of most wickets for Team India in international cricket. He was level with Bedi on 273 wickets and took his tally to 275 after dismissing Duckett and Pope.
While Bedi picked up 273 wickets in 128 innings, Kuldeep went past him in his 155th innings for India. The list is led by the legendary Anil Kumble who finished his illustrious career with 953 wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh are second and third in the list respectively. On the other hand, Kuldeep is at the 17th spot.
