Former England captain Michael Vaughan recently raised several eyebrows by suggesting that cameras should be placed on Decision Review System (DRS) operators to provide transparency. The former cricketer-turned-commentator made the comments after Joe Root’s controversial dismissal in the second innings of the recently concluded fourth Test between India and England.

While Michael Vaughan insisted that he was not accusing anyone of cheating, he stated that there should be more transparency in the process. Root was given out LBW by the third umpire after the on-field umpire’s not-out decision was reviewed by Team India. The delivery from Ravichandran Ashwin initially appeared to pitch outside of leg stump and the on-field umpire gave his decision in the favour of the batsman.

However, the ball-tracking showed that the ball pitched fractionally inside the line of the stumps. With the ball hitting the leg stump, the on-field umpire had to change his original decision and Root had to walk back for 11. Following the dismissal, Michael Vaughan took to X (formerly Twitter) to call the dismissal a ‘shocker’ and questioned the Hawkeye technology too before deleting his post.

“I’m not saying anyone is cheating,” said Michael Vaughan on the Test Match Special Podcast.

“I’m trying to give an answer for when a decision is made and we all disagree with it. If the person on Hawk-Eye is filmed it puts the noise to bed.

“The most important operators of decisions now are in the trucks. We need to have a camera in the truck to give an understanding of how it all comes to that decision. All I want is full transparency. If it takes the International Cricket Council employing someone to put in the trucks for integrity, they have to do that as well,” he added.

Michael Vaughan reacts:

Michael Vaughan’s comments raised a number of eyebrows and triggered a range of reactions from fans and experts. One follower also went ahead and posted a sarcastic video to ridicule the England great’s comments. Taking a dig at Michael Vaughan’s ‘cameras in DRS trucks’ comment, he posted the video in which the DRS operator could be seen tampering with the ball-tracking system.

Michael Vaughan noticed the video and decided to react to it, writing: “This is very very amusing…”

And as soon as he reacted, several fans decided to take shots at him. The fans slammed Vaughan for questioning the DRS and asked him to move on. Here are some of the reactions:
