Former England skipper Michael Vaughan hoped for a strong performance from middle-order batter Jonny Bairstow during the fourth Test against India. However, Michael Vaughan???s prediction seemingly backfired, as Jonny Bairstow was dismissed shortly after.

England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bat first in the fourth Test against India at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. However, debutant Akash Deep dismantled England???s top order with a brilliant spell with the new ball in the first session.

Love An Angry Jonny Bairstow ??? Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan, a prominent cricket personality on social media, looked forward to a solid performance from Jonny Bairstow. However, his anticipation seemed to have the opposite effect, as Bairstow faced dismissal shortly after Vaughan???s comment.

Bairstow showcased a more positive approach, adopting his aggressive batting style. He scored a quickfire 38 runs off 35 deliveries before being dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. The right-handed batter attempted a sweep shot but missed, leading to his dismissal.

The wicketkeeper-batter has struggled to make an impact in the series, failing to reach a half-century. He managed to post scores of 0 and 4 in the Rajkot Test. Across the first three Test matches, he has only scored 102 runs at an underwhelming average of 17.

Akash Deep Provides First Breakthrough For India

Akash Deep provided the first breakthrough for the home team by dismissing Ben Duckett in the tenth over of the innings. The right-arm pacer managed to induce Duckett???s outside edge, and wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel completed a simple catch behind the stumps.

Just a couple of balls later, Akash claimed another wicket, removing England???s vice-captain, Ollie Pope. He trapped Pope in front of the stumps, but the on-field umpire turned down the appeal. Rohit Sharma opted for the Decision Review System (DRS), which favored India.

The debutant shattered Zak Crawley???s stumps during the 12th over of England???s first innings. Crawley fell victim to a well-directed delivery by Akash Deep. The England opener had to depart to the dugout after scoring 42 runs, comprising six boundaries and a six.

As of writing, England has scored 170 runs for the loss of five wickets after 47 overs. Wicket-keeper batter Ben Foakes and former skipper Joe Root stabilized the innings with a partnership during the second session. Root appeared to be returning to his usual batting style.

India vs England Playing XI

England made two changes to their line-up after a disappointing loss in Rajkot. Ollie Robinson and Shoaib Bashir returned to their playing XI, replacing Mark Wood and Rehan Ahmed. Meanwhile, India made a single change, bringing in Akash Deep for Jasprit Bumrah.
