New twist in Ishan Kishan saga!! Fresh reports reveal that he blatantly refused to play in the India vs England Test series

Young Indian cricketers Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have recently faced scrutiny after declining to participate in the Ranji Trophy. According to the latest news reports, Ishan Kishan also refused to play for India in the ongoing five-match Test series against England.

Ishan Kishan pulled out of the two-match series against South Africa in December, citing mental fatigue. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had decided to give him a break from the game. However, Kishan was not included in the squad for the England series.

Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, participated in India’s squad for the initial two Tests of the ongoing five-match series against England at home. Nevertheless, the right-handed batsman faced an unexpected exclusion from the squad for the remaining three matches.

The BCCI issued a mandate for players to represent their state teams in domestic cricket if they have no national commitments. However, Ishan Kishan disregarded this directive and moved to Baroda to prepare for the upcoming IPL 2024, along with the Pandya brothers.

BCCI dropped Ishan Kishan from the annual contract for refusing to play in the Ranji Trophy. Similarly, Shreyas Iyer also faced consequences and was removed from the contract for opting out of playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Baroda.

Ishan Kishan Refused To Play In England Tests – Reports

According to the latest news reports, the Indian team management contacted Ishan Kishan during the Test series against England. The wicketkeeper-batter refused to play for India in the home series, stating that he is not yet ready to participate in Test cricket.

Young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel was given a chance in the absence of Kishan. Jurel made his debut during the third Test match in Rajkot. He made the most of the opportunity and scored 46 runs in his first outing, helping India cross 400 in the first innings.

Dhruv Jurel was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his impressive batting display in the fourth Test match, where India secured a five-wicket victory. The right-handed batter scored a valuable 90 runs in the first innings, followed by an unbeaten 39 during the chase in Ranchi.

Shreyas Iyer And Ishan Kishan Were Not Considered – BCCI

The BCCI revealed that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for this season’s contracts. Their official statement emphasized the importance of prioritizing participation in domestic cricket when not representing the national team.

“Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations. The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team,” BCCI said in a statement.

Ishan Kishan aims to perform well in the upcoming IPL season to secure a spot in India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in the USA and the West Indies. The IPL 2024 offers Kishan an opportunity to showcase his skills and earn selection.
