India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal opened up about his sensational innings on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test against England. The batter said that he would want to double his innings on Day 2 and play till the end for the team.

The Day 1 of the first Test between India and England in Vizag was all about Yashasvi Jaiswal. The opening batter carried his bat throughout the day and made sure that he helped his team end the day on high.

Despite the wickets falling at the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal made sure that he held the one end and helped his team get the runs quickly. The batter showed great discipline against the good balls but made sure that he dispatched the bad deliveries.

Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his golden touch and made sure he went one step up ahead of the last match. The batter blasted a magnificent ton but he didn’t stop there and continued batting with the same intent and some focus for the team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten at 179 runs off 257 balls with 17 fours and five sixes to his name. His heroics helped India end Day 1 with a total of 336/6 runs on the board. His innings proved out to be crucial because other batters threw wickets away.

Yashasvi Jaiswal said that he wanted to play it session by session. He also talked about the tricky phase, saying that he wanted to get through that spell and convert the loose balls. Speaking to broadcasters after the end of Day’s play, he explained:

“I wanted to play it session by session. When they were bowling well, I just wanted to get through that spell. Initially, the wicket was damp and there was spin and bounce, with a bit of seam. However, I wanted to convert the loose balls and play till the end. I would love to double this up, and play till the end for the team.”

Rahul sir and Rohit bhai kept giving me the confidence – Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal highlighted the importance of recovery for Day 2 and also talked about the conditions. He opened up about the message from head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma, saying that they wanted him to convert his innings into big ones and play till the end. He explained:

“I want to recover well for tomorrow now. The pitch played a bit differently, in the morning it was a bit damp and then it settled. With the older ball, there was some bounce. Rahul sir and Rohit bhai kept giving me the confidence and told me to convert this into a big innings, and stay till the end.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal would be eager to convert his innings into a double ton. He will be extremely crucial for the team on Day 2. The pitch is expected to deteriorate as the game progresses and therefore hosts would want to get as many runs as possible.

India would be eyeing to get at least 400 runs. For that, Yashasvi Jaiswal needs to replicate his heroics from Day 1 on Day 2. It remains to be seen how he goes about his innings on the second day of the match.
