Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin created history during the fourth Test against England in Ranchi. Ravichandran Ashwin became the first Indian bowler to claim 100 wickets against England in Test cricket, marking a significant achievement in his career.

The Rohit Sharma-led side is currently facing the England side at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. The visiting team opted to bat first after winning the toss. However, it backfired for them, as they ended the first session with a score of 112/5.

Ravichandran Ashwin Claims 100 Test Wickets Against England

Ravichandran Ashwin, playing his 99th Test, claimed England batter Jonny Bairstow as his first wicket of the match. Bairstow, who scored a 35-ball 38 with four boundaries and a six, was initially adjudged not out, but India successfully reviewed the decision.

Following the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow on Day 1 of the match, the Tamil Nadu-born cricketer reached a significant milestone. The off-spinner completed his 100th Test wicket in just 23 matches against England, becoming the only Indian bowler to achieve this feat.

Akash Deep Strikes Thrice In First Session On Day 1

Debutant Akash Deep ran through England’s top order in the opening session of the fourth Test on Friday, February 23. Akash Deep dismissed in-form batter Ben Duckett to claim his first international wicket. He picked up the wicket of Ollie Pope (0) in the same over.

The debutant continued his impressive performance by breaking through opener Zak Crawley’s defense, dismissing him in the 12th over of the innings. Crawley, who had been scoring at a run-a-ball with 42 runs, fell victim to a well-executed nip-backer in the first innings.

It is worth mentioning that in the fourth over, Akash dismantled Crawley’s off-stump with a superb delivery. However, the excitement was short-lived as the bowler overstepped, resulting in a no-ball call by the third umpire. Crawley failed to make the most of the chance.

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja claimed the wicket of England’s captain, Ben Stokes, who managed just three runs. England found themselves in a challenging position, with the scoreboard showing 112-5 in 24.1 overs before the lunch break on the opening day.
