"Ravichandran Ashwin will never go a full series.."- Former England skipper lauds the veteran spinner's consistency
India won the fourth Test match against England which was played at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium in Ranchi. Ravichandran Ashwin who was not having a good series with the ball now finally ended up picking up a fifer in the second innings of the fourth Test match.
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan reckons Ravichandran Ashwin cannot go a full series without bagging a fifer. This was Ravichandran Ashwin’s 35th fifer in Test cricket and he has now equaled Anil Kumble’s record, who also has taken 35 fifers in his Test career.
Michael Vaughan was surprised that Ravichandran Ashwin did not pick up a fifer in the five-match series until the second innings of the fourth Test where he picked up a figure of 5/51. The former England skipper said that bowling with the new ball helps Ravichandran Ashwin because of the under-spinner he got.
He can skid the ball early on and then when the bowl starts to turn, he can get that overspin and turn the ball square to deceive the batters. He also praised his combination with Kuldeep Yadav in the match.
“I thought it was just surprising that he did not have a fifer in this series and obviously it was always gonna come at some stage and we did say on the show that it could come tomorrow which is today and it has arrived.
He bowled beautifully, I think bowling with the new ball really helps him because he’s got that under-spinner that kind of skids on. A delivery that he got Ollie Pope out of the first ball was a beauty that skidded on up,” said Michael Vaughan on CricBuzz.
“Bit of a surprise for Ollie, he didn’t realize that kind of ball would be coming and, that’s the kind of thought process that you need while waiting to bat, kind of understand what a bowler is delivering before you get out there but Ashwin was always gonna have a say at some stage.
There’s never in a million years, that he would go a full series without getting a fifer and the way that he bowled and the combination with Kuldeep Yadav and I’m sure if you ask afterward and he’s a professor, he’s a magician.”

Ravichandran Ashwin took his 35th Test fifer and has equaled Anil Kumble’s record for the most fifers by an Indian. He also completed his 500 Test wickets in this series during the third Test in Rajkot.
India won three consecutive Tests to win the series against England and register their 17th consecutive Test series victory at home. The fifth and final Test of the series will be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
India will aim to win the fifth Test of the series to further better their PCT in the WTC points table. They have not lost a Test series at home since 2012 and have been brilliant under home conditions.
The key factor for India’s victory was youngsters stepping up to the task and showing maturity in their game. Dhruv Jurel, the 23-year-old wicketkeeper was the Player of the Match for his brilliant 90 in the first innings and unbeaten 39 in the second innings to seal the game and series for India.
