Indian skipper Rohit Sharma equaled Rahul Dravid’s mammoth record following his brilliant century during the fifth Test against England. Rohit Sharma moved to joint third place in the list of most hundreds by Indian batsmen across formats in international cricket.

The home team resumed their second day’s play at 135/1, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill at the crease. They displayed dominance over the England bowlers throughout the opening session. The duo managed to play the first session without losing any wickets.

Rohit Sharma Equals Rahul Dravid’s Mammoth Record

Rohit Sharma reached his second century in the ongoing five-match series on home soil. However, Ben Stokes picked up Rohit’s wicket on his first ball of the series. The right-handed batter scored 103 runs off 162 balls, with the help of 13 boundaries and three sixes.

The 36-year-old shattered multiple records on his way to scoring his 12th Test century. Rohit Sharma equaled Rahul Dravid’s tally of international centuries. With 48 centuries across three formats, Rohit now stands closely behind Tendulkar and Kohli in the list.

Following Rohit’s dismissal, India lost Shubman Gill to James Anderson in the next over. The veteran England bowler shattered Gill’s stumps with a brilliant delivery. The Indian No. 3 batter scored 110 runs off 150 deliveries with the help of 12 fours and five sixes.

Young batters Devdutt Padikkal (65) and Sarfaraz Khan (56) steadied the innings with half-centuries. However, they failed to convert them into big scores. Dhruv Jurel (15), Ravindra Jadeja (15), and Ravichandran Ashwin (0) fell cheaply in the final session of day 2.

At the time of writing, India had scored 444 runs for the loss of eight wickets, with Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav at the crease. Shoaib Bashir took four wickets, while Tom Hartley contributed two, and James Anderson and Ben Stokes took one each.

Rohit Sharma Is Enjoying Challenges – Saba Karim

Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim commended Rohit Sharma for his resilience and performance in the ongoing Test series against England. Karim highlighted Rohit’s ability to excel under pressure and his enjoyment of challenging situations.

“You’ve seen that in Rajkot, the team was in a difficult situation and he came out with a 100. He’s someone who is enjoying the challenges. That is something as an experienced player, you thrive on these kinds of situations. Yesterday, that balance was there, he was in his elements that pull off the short ball to Wood is an indication of he’s doing well,” Saba Karim told Jio Cinema.

Rohit scored 131 runs in India’s first innings during the third Test match in Rajkot. He rescued the team from 33/3 and played a crucial role in helping the team reach 445 in the first innings. The home team recorded their biggest victory by beating England by 434 runs.

The Indian opener has scored 400 runs in nine innings at an average of 44.44. He has smashed two centuries and one half-century so far in the series. The batter stands as India’s third-highest scorer in the series, behind Yashasvi Jaiswal (712) and Shubman Gill (452).
