Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been a real find for India in the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series. Yashasvi is currently the leading run-scorer of the series and has scored 655 runs from eight innings at an average of 93.57. The young left-handed batter has smashed two double hundreds and has been the real difference maker in the second and the third Test.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma heaped praise on the young players who played a significant role in India’s win in the fourth Test match. Rohit believed that Yashasvi Jaiswal is a bit hunky-dory but including him, all the young players are quite grounded. He stated that the team management’s job is to create the environment for the younger players that they have to go on the field and do the job.

Rohit Sharma said, “A lot of these guys are quite grounded, to be honest. Jaiswal is still hunky-dory, but other than that all these guys are quite humble, they come from a humble background, so they obviously take that into their game as well. Our job is to make sure that the environment is there for them to go out there and do the job, and that is what we try and do with a lot of these younger players.”

Further speaking in the post-match press conference, Rohit Sharma said that many of the players have spent a lot of time in domestic cricket. Rohit stated that the young players are quite aware of the Test format and are also used to playing long innings and bowling long spells.

Rohit Sharma said, “They have spent a lot of time playing domestic cricket, so they are quite aware of this particular format, playing longer innings, bowling longer spells, they’re quite aware of that. And just when they come in for a series like this, obviously it’s important for us to understand what their thinking is, and then obviously mix and match a little bit with what we think and what they think, and then you form a strategy around it.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal has had to go through a lot of hardships and struggles to make a place on the Indian side. Jaiswal showcased his talent on the world stage during the U19 World Cup 2020 and later had a blast IPL 2023 wherein he ended up scoring 625 runs from 14 games and also smashed a hundred.

Jaiswal went on to hit a ton on his Test debut against West Indies in July 2023, whereas he flopped on the tour of South Africa. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s real Test will be in Australia, where India are all set to play a five-match Test series at the end of this year.

The five-match series between India and England is placed at 3-1 and the Indian team will be hoping to win the 5th Test match and take the series 4-1. The fifth Test of the series will be played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala from March 7, 2024.
