Rohit Sharma reaches another milestone with his 17th half-century in Test cricket, completes 9000 FC runs
Rohit Sharma smashed his 17th half-century in Test cricket during the second innings of the fourth Test against England which is being played at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium in Ranchi. The Indian skipper scored 55 off 81 deliveries smashing five boundaries and a six. With this innings, he has completed 9000 runs in First-Class cricket. He smashed his half-century during the first session on Day 4 of the fourth Test and was dismissed off Tom Hartley’s delivery which led to an awkward dismissal as he was out both caught and stumped.
Rohit Sharma has also completed 4000 runs in Test cricket during this innings becoming the 17th Indian batter to achieve this milestone. He has completed his 4000 runs in the 100th inning of his Test career. Rohit Sharma has played 58 Tests and has amassed 4035 runs at an average of 44.83 which includes 17 half-centuries and 11 centuries. Out of 4035 runs, around 2500 runs have come for him as an opener where he has smashed eight centuries and seven half-centuries.
England won the toss and elected to bat first scoring 353 in the first innings. Joe Root was back to his natural game and scored an unbeaten 122 off 274 balls hitting 10 boundaries in his patient and resilient innings. In response, India scored 307 in the first innings laying back on the 73 of 117 balls by Yashasvi Jaiswal and 90 off 149 balls by Dhruv Jurel. England in the second innings crumbled for 145 as Ravichandran Ashwin took a fifer and Kuldeep Yadav settled with a four-fer.
India needs to reach 192 runs in the fourth innings in this Test match to win the match and seal the series. Rohit Sharma scored 55 off 81 in the fourth innings and gave a brilliant start to the Indian innings as he stitched up an 84-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal. India has lost five wickets but needs less than 30 runs to win the game.

Talking about Rohit Sharma’s record against England in Test cricket, he has scored 1044 runs against England in 25 innings across 13 Test matches at an average of 45.39 which includes three centuries and four half-centuries. He has been a terrific batter for India across all formats and his redemption in Test cricket started in 2019 when he was asked to open the innings for India in the longest format.
Rohit Sharma has not lost a bilateral Test series as an Indian captain and is looking to continue his record against England in the ongoing Test series. India has not lost a Test series at home since 2012 and has won 16 consecutive Test series at home since the defeat against England in 2012. The hosts are already ahead 2-1 in the series and if they win this Test match in Ranchi, they will win the series and the fifth Test match will be a dead rubber.
The fifth Test match of the series will be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. India is on the verge of winning their 17th consecutive Test series at home and it will be the first defeat for Ben Stokes in a bilateral series as the Test captain of England.
