India batter Shreyas Iyer was axed from the Test squad for the last three games against England. It didn’t come as a surprise to many because of his poor outings in the longest format of the game in the last few months.

The second Test against England in Vizag could’ve been the last we saw Shreyas Iyer in Test attire for the team. As per the reports in PTI, it is learned that the right-hander will not be considered for Test cricket in the near future and one of the reasons behind this is his clear weakness against short balls.

Shreyas Iyer hasn’t been able to get going against short balls. His weakness was exposed in South Africa recently and many teams too are aware of that, targeting him with the same delivery again and again. With India set to tour Australia later this year, he is unlikely to get picked.

The reports claimed that Shreyas Iyer’s mode of dismissals on batting-friendly Indian tracks is the biggest cause of concern for the team. Therefore it won’t be a surprise if he doesn’t get picked in the team in the longest format of the game from now on.

Earlier there were some reports that suggested that Shreyas Iyer wasn’t picked in the Indian team for the last three games because of the groin strain and stiff back. However, PTI claimed that the batter deliberately has been dropped owing to the poor form.

If Shreyas was to be rested because of injury, the BCCI medical bulletin would have had an update. Since there are no updates, it can be concluded that he has got the axe,” a BCCI source told PTI.

Shreyas Iyer since the last 13 innings is yet to score a half-century. He registered scores of scores of 35, 13, 27, and 29 in the four innings he played against England in the ongoing series. He also faced a lot of criticism for his poor innings as well.

Sarfaraz Khan likely to replace Shreyas Iyer in the India playing 11

With Shreyas Iyer getting dropped from the team, it is expected that Sarfaraz Khan will replace him in the Indian XI for the third Test against England in Rajkot. There are high chances that Mumbai batter will play because KL Rahul’s availability is subject to fitness and there are high chances that he won’t play.

Sarfaraz Khan has been battling hard in the domestic circuit for the last 3-4 years. He was included in the team after KL Rahul was ruled out of the second Test. He has been going through a terrific run of form and it could be handy for the team in the next game with the series levelled at 1-1.
