India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t look in great mood during the fag end of the Day 1 of the ongoing Test against England. The second game of the series between the teams is taking place at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

The Day 1 of the game between India and England saw an evenly poised contest between the teams. Indian batters had a decent outing but the visitors kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals making sure they stayed in the game.

While the competition between bat and ball was high, things sort of heated up as well in the end. Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was seen fuming after the day’s play ended. While Yashasvi Jaiswal was seen acknowledging all the praises, the off-spinner wasn’t amazed by something.

Ravichandran Ashwin was seen having an animated chat with the umpire. It seemed that he was upset with something. After he defended the last ball of the day, he turned up immediately to the umpire and was seen complaining about something.

There’s no clarity as to why Ravichandran Ashwin fumed at the end of the day’s play. The off-spinner batted the entire last over of Rehan Ahmed and even hit an attacking slog sweep for a boundary. Before he was even waking back to the pavilion with partner Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the hero of the day for India on Day 1. He slammed a magnificent century and kept India in the game. The batter kept battling hard despite wickets falling at the other end and made sure he carried his bat till the end.

Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten at 179 runs off 257 balls with 17 fours and five sixes to his name. His heroics helped India end Day 1 with a total of 336/6 runs on the board.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin to play crucial for India with bat on Day 2

With the way the pitch has played, it is expected that batting will get difficult as the game progresses. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin, who are currently batting, would be hoping to carry on and bat for as long as possible.

Ravichandran Ashwin looked in good touch in the first match whereas Jaiswal would be hoping to double his tally. The batter himself wants to bat long and take his team to the big total. Speaking after the game, he stated:

“I wanted to play it session by session. When they were bowling well, I just wanted to get through that spell. Initially, the wicket was damp and there was spin and bounce, with a bit of seam. However, I wanted to convert the loose balls and play till the end. I would love to double this up, and play till the end for the team.” He concluded.

Ravichandran Ashwin will be crucial for India with the ball as well. If India have to fancy their chances of winning, he needs to step up with the ball. The off-spinner is also eyeing 500 Test wickets and would be looking to achieve that too.
