Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar gave Rohit Sharma a standing ovation after the latter completed his century in the ongoing fifth Test against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

The India captain has led his team from the very front to put it in the driver’s seat in the ongoing game. India scored 129 runs without losing a wicket in the first session on day two. At lunch, India were on 264 for 1 in reply to England’s first innings total of 218 runs. Rohit Sharma was unbeaten on 102 while his partner Shubman Gill was batting on 101.

Starting the day on 52, Rohit Sharma reached his century in 154 balls with the help of 13 fours and 3 sixes. It is his second century in the series. And as Rohit completed his century, Dilip Vengsarkar decided to give him a standing ovation from the stands.

Rohit has received praise from all over for his captaincy in the ongoing series as he led the team to a series win despite the absence of a number of key players. The likes of Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami were not available while KL Rahul was sidelined with an injury after the first Test.

The loss in the first Test only added more pressure. However, Rohit-led India bounced back in style to win the second, third, and fourth Tests. India are now looking destined to win the ongoing fifth Test as well.

Dilip Vengsarkar called Rohit Sharma one of the best in the world:

Dilip Vengsarkar has never shied away from expressing his admiration for Rohit Sharma. In 2021, he hailed the Indian star as one of the best batsmen in the world. Vengsarkar said that watching Rohit bat was a treat as he praised his batting technique.

“He is one of the best batsmen in the world. There is no question about it. The way he plays fast bowling on any surface, whether it is seaming or bouncing. Or even against spinners (in the last two Tests). It is a treat to watch him bat,” Dilip Vengsarkar had said.

“He has a great defensive technique. Because if you have to score runs on any kind of wicket, you need a good defensive technique. He has that. I’d say he has everything. How he changes gears, how he approaches the game, and his attacking technique. The way he played against spinners is a treat to watch just like it is watching him against fast bowling,” he added.
