Indian number 3 batter Shubman Gill clapped back at his critics yet again with a wonderful century off 137 balls in the 5th Test against England here at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala. Gill along with Rohit Sharma, scored their 2nd full-century of the 5-match series which began on January 26.

Following Gill’s century completion, his father who is watching over from the stands, stood on his feet and clapped for his son’s 4th Test century. The Indian team is now looking increasingly closer to their target of posting a 500+ total to keep the pressure on England who have been pushed further back in the game.

It was definitely a proud moment for Shubman Gill’s father to be present in the stands of the picturesque HPCA stadium where his son has been breathing fire throughout. Since coming on to bat in the closing hours of day 1, Gill has looked confident and combative with a bit of a killer instinct in within him.

He has worked very hard in this particular series after dealing with problems in his technique, especially the hard hands he was using since the Test series in South Africa. Gill had a tour of South Africa to forget as he returned after scoring just 74-runs from all 4 innings at Centurion and Cape Town.

Then during the start of the 5-match home Test series against England, Gill was scrutinized again with poor form and hard hands. Though he was getting off to good starts, his shot selection, especially away from his body, saw him get dismiss through soft dismissals again and again until the turnaround took place in Vishakhapatnam.

Shubman Gill had scored 23 and 0 across innings in the 1st Test’s 28-run loss at Hyderabad and then 34 in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test. However, he produced a terrific turnaround in the 2nd innings, scoring 104 to help India set up a 399-run target. It was a crucial knock from his bat as he knew that his spot could be up for discussion when the selectors pick the squad for the remaining 3 Tests.

The 23-year-old then followed up his 104 knock with a duck and 91 in the 3rd Test at Rajkot where India registered their biggest ever Test match win by 434-runs. Then after scoring 38 in the 2nd innings, Gill scored 52* and partnered with Dhruv Jurel who eventually scored the winning runs of India’s 5-wicket victory at Ranchi in the 4th Test.

Can Gill score a double hundred

It is often said that, “one brings two” in cricketing terminology and if that’s the case then Shubman Gill can might as well try to convert his hundred into a double hundred. Scoring double tons isn’t anything new for him either as he has done it once in the international circuit.

Gill’s one and only double ton came against New Zealand last year during the 1st of a 3-match ODI series at Hyderabad where he finished at 208 off just 149.
