Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa talked about Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback. He said that the upcoming T20I series against Ireland will be an opportunity for him to showcase his leadership skills and he might even become the Test captain.

Jasprit Bumrah is on the cusp of making his return to the Indian Cricket Team after almost a year. He last played for the team in September 2022 and since then he has missed all the important games for the team including T20 World Cup 2022 and ICC World Test Championship Final as well.

After months of struggle and hard work, Jasprit Bumrah now has finally regained his full fitness and will be making his comeback in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland, starting 18th August. Not only he’ll be making a comeback, but he will also be captaining the side.

Jasprit Bumrah will be leading a young team as all the core players of the Indian team have been rested for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The upcoming three games will be an opportunity for him to regain his touch and get back to his full flow.

Robin Uthappa hailed Jasprit Bumrah as a shrewd strategist and said that along with his comeback, it’ll be great to see how he adapts to the leadership role.

Speaking to Jio Cinema, he explained: “I think it’s interesting. He has got leadership skills and he could go on to become our Test captain, too, because he is a pretty shrewd strategist as well. But, he has got the opportunity to do that here apart from making a comeback. It will be interesting to see how he’ll go about it.”

Fingers will be crossed when Jasprit Bumrah will step into the field for the first time. The spotlight will be on him but also there will be tensions related to his fitness. Robin Uthappa however, expects the pacer to go injury free in this series.

He explained: “I expect Bumrah to go injury-free this series and stay completely healthy. I think that’s what every Indian supporter would want from him. He should just feel like himself again and that would augur really well for the Indian team.”
