Ind vs WI: "I Don't See Virat Kohli Being Reappointed As India's Test Captain" - Aakash Chopra

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra feels that Virat Kohli will not be reappointed as India’s Test captain, and it is important to examine why he believes this. Chopra claims that because Kohli willingly stepped down from the responsibility in the past, he may not be considered for it again.
Kohli stepped down as India’s Test captain following the 2021-22 tour of South Africa. Before stepping down as ODI captain, he stepped down as T20I captain and was replaced by the selectors as T20I captain.

“No one asked him to leave Test captaincy” – Aakash Chopra
Former Indian Opener Aakash Chopra’s response to the topic of whether Virat Kohli should be reinstated as India’s Test captain reveals that, while Kohli may return to the post, it may not be the best move.
Chopra emphasizes that Kohli was not officially requested to step down as Test captain, meaning that the decision was done willingly or for personal reasons. This suggests that there could have been underlying considerations driving Kohli’s decision that the public is unaware of.
“He can be made but he won’t be and maybe that’s the right thing as well because no one asked him to leave Test captaincy. This thing has been cleared multiple times from different quarters that no one said that he won’t remain the Test captain,” Aakash Chopra said.
The former Indian opener emphasized that Kohli’s resignation as Test captain left the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a pickle and that it is doubtful that he will be reappointed at this time.
“In fact, when he took this decision that he won’t remain the captain, the BCCI was taken aback slightly that what really happened, that they will have to search for a captain. So that was a slightly different thing but not now,” Aakash Chopra added.

“Rohit Sharma is already not there in T20s, the ODI and Test captaincy” – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener, thinks Rohit Sharma’s future as a skipper across all forms will rely on how well he does at the upcoming ODI World Cup. This suggests that Sharma’s captaincy is under question and that his performance in the competition will be important in determining whether he stays in that position.
“This World Cup’s performance will decide Rohit Sharma’s future as a captain across formats. He is already not there in T20s, the ODI and Test captaincy will go on until the World Cup but a call will be taken on both after the World Cup, that whether you need to continue under his leadership or a new captain will be chosen,” Aakash Chopra said.
“Nothing but a podium finish, if you play till the final and finish either one or two, you get some time. If that does not happen, you have already lost the T20 World Cup – you didn’t reach the final, you are coming after losing the Asia Cup in the T20 format and here you have lost the WTC final,” Aakash Chopra added.
