India National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. Batting first, Indian openers Shubman Gill and KL Rahul were off to a decent start in the match and India were at 41/0, but suddenly they were reduced to 48/3, with Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli getting dismissed.
After losing three wickets, Cheteshwar Pujara joined forces with Rishabh Pant to lead India to recovery and at lunch, India were at 85/3 in 26 overs.
Pujara and Pant added 64 runs together in 73 balls with the latter being the aggressor, before Mehidy Hasan Miraz broke the partnership in the 32nd over by dismissing Rishabh Pant, who scored 46 runs off 45 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
After an incredible partnership with Pant, Pujara also stitched up a remarkable 149-run partnership in 317 balls with the middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer.
‘Unfortunate’ Cheteshwar Pujara Falls 10 Runs Short Of A Ton, But Becomes India’s 8th Highest Run-Scorer In Tests
Cheteshwar Pujara, whose catch was dropped at the score of 12 by Nurul Hasan, looked amazing out in the middle and played a solid knock.
India’s No.3 was dismissed by Taijul Islam in the 85th over and he was unfortunate to miss out on a well-deserved century. Cheteshwar Pujara scored 90 runs off 203 balls, including 11 fours, to help India get to a strong position in the match.
Pujara’s 90-run knock in the innings helped him overtake Dilip Vengsarkar’s tally of 6868 runs, which he scored in 116 Tests, and become India’s 8th-highest run-getter in the history of Test cricket.
Pujara, who made his Test debut in 2010, now has 6882 runs in his bag in 97 Tests. The veteran batter has scored his runs at an average of 44.11. Also, he has registered 18 centuries and 34 half-centuries in Test cricket.
