Rajkumar Sharma, a former cricketer, and Virat Kohli’s childhood coach believe Ravichandran Ashwin’s performance is essential to India’s hopes of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
The first Test match between Bangladesh and the veteran off-spinner at Chattogram featured just one wicket, which is indicative of his recent slump. Even though fellow spinner Kuldeep Yadav finished the game with an eight-wicket haul, he simply didn’t test the opposition’s hitters sufficiently.

In the second Test against Bangladesh before the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy the following year, Rajkumar Sharma is hoping that Ravichandran Ashwin rediscover his rhythm. Here is what he said about Ashwin’s form in a statement to India News:
“Ashwin’s bowling is a concern because I believe he is our No. 1 Test bowler. He hasn’t had much success in Bangladesh and will need to find form if we want to earn the four victories from our last five Tests to enter the final”
“The fitness of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah is also not guaranteed, which makes it more vital for Ashwin to establish form.”
“Axar and Kuldeep have stepped up”: Rajkumar Sharma
The other two Indian spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, were outstanding in Chattogram but Ashwin appeared to fail to take wickets. Rajkumar Sharma was very pleased with how Kuldeep made his Tests comeback.
“The good news is that, while Ashwin is struggling for form, other spinners such as Axar and Kuldeep have stepped up. The wording is a little different, but it’s the same idea,” Rajkumar Sharma Added.
The second Test between India and Bangladesh will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium and is scheduled to start on December 22.
